In the previous article, we discussed how to create an X object using SketchUp. Let start creating BVE5 structure with  a simple structure, i.e. the ground structure. Technically, it is a plain rectangular object in a horizontal position.

Structure Dimension of ground


Ground Width : 600 to 900 m
Ground length : 5.1 m or 25.2m

Basic ground structure



Steps

  1. Run your SketchUp
  2. Use mouse wheel down/up to zoom-in or zoom out.
  3. Click "Orbit (button)" to rotate camera if necessary.
  4. click on "Tape Measure (button)" and click the origin of axis (x=0, y=0, z=0)
  5. Move cursor to left of red axis, and type "300" (use keyboard)
  6. repeat this step, click on "Tape Measure (button)" and click the origin of axis (x=0, y=0, z=0)
  7. Move cursor to right of red axis, and type "300" (use keyboard)
  8. use mouse wheel down/up to zoom-in or zoom out, and drag the drawing are until both end visible.
  9. click on "Tape Measure (button)", and click the end point on the left of red axis (x=-300,y=0,z=0).
  10. move cursor along green axis (green line should be visible), and type "25.2" (use keyboard)
  11. click on rectangle button, click on last guide point and drag mouse to end guide point on the right of red axis.
  12. click the guide point.
  13. by default, back face is on the top and front face at the bottom. we need to reverse this orientation.
  14. right click on the face, and click Reverse Face.
  15. next we will add texture to the front face
  16. Go to Material windows on the right, click on "Create Materials..." button.
  17. Select texture image on your PC
  18. Change texture size as appropriate, your can also change this later.
  19. Click on the new texture to activate paint bucket tool, and click on the front face to paint.
  20. Save your drawing.
  21. Save as your drawing as SketchUp v 8, close the file.
  22. Reopen v8 drawing with SketchUp v 8.
  23. Delete/Hide people object.
  24. Select All and convert drawing to .x with MMD Exporter.

Enhanced ground structure

The problem with the basic structure, ground structure seem cracked on curves.



  • to overcome this problem, we will create another layer of ground below the current layer. The distance between layers is about 0.05 meters. (z = -0.05)
  • The shape and dimensions of the bottom layer are as below.




bottom layer specification for above example:


total outer length : 20 x 2 = 40 m
total inner @ middle length : 8 x 2 = 16 m
total width : 600 m


Cracking ground on curve issue has been fixed.

Please take note, texture size should be in 2n (2 x 2 x 2 ….. n times), for example : 16x16, 16x32, 32x16, 32x32, 128x64, 256x256, 1024 x 128 pixels, etc…. Otherwise the texture of BVE structure will not be rendered properly.
